MILITARY/ FIRST RESPONDERS

Military

"22 a Day" is a slogan that refers to the high rate of suicide suffered by our veterans over the last 15 years. Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) plays a role in these suicides, and it is a tough problem to overcome. Since 2006, a small group of horse centers across the country have been providing Therapeutic Horsemanship lessons to these veterans with amazing results. Promising new research suggests that veterans can show remarkable improvements after just 6 to 8 weeks of equine lessons. Hundreds of these veterans are stating unequivocally that "their" horse saved their lives, from suicide and chronic depression.Veterans are looking for nontraditional solutions to help them overcome despair. Therapeutic horsemanship programs are providing hope and help to those who have served.  This can be accomplished on the ground or in the saddle.

First Responders

Fire, police, paramedics, EMT’s, search and rescue, 911 dispatch, and ER physicians and nurses – work on the front lines to protect their communities, making them routinely among the first to be exposed to a scene of conflict, trauma, and/or disaster. As a result, they experience injuries, post-traumatic stress, and other disorders at higher rates, well above those of the general population. New Dawn Equine Ranch’s equine assisted learning programs encourage physical, cognitive, and relational rehabilitation, providing a safe environment in which clients can redevelop independence, confidence, and self-awareness. Equine Assisted Learning and Wellness Program is 8-12 sessions with horses and is aimed at addressing topics such as self-awareness, stress reduction, and work/life balance. Sessions can be tailored for specific individual and group goals. Sessions are unmounted with no riding involved and no horse experience necessary. Depending on situation and individual needs, riding can be added.
